Our Current Projects

1. Strengthening Tolerance and Openness in the Education System

NTA creates unique educational materials, and runs special programs for teachers, educators, youth counselors and rabbis exploring the concerns of Modern Orthodoxy.
NTA works with and advocates for individuals and groups experiencing difficulties within the religious educational system.
NTA founded Re'im, a pluralistic and gender-neutral Beit Midrash where Orthodox men and women study together Bible, Talmud and Jewish philosophy. Re'im participants concentrate on broad issues of Jewish life in modern society.

2. Empowering the Modern Orthodox voice in the media

NTA provides a press response promoting open Orthodox voices that are too frequently unheard. NTA responds to issues of the day on education, the relationship between religion and state, women's rights and religious pluralism.
De'ot and Et Lidrosh are publications directed at building bridges between the religious and modern world. De'ot is published monthly and distributed to thousands of individuals and institutions throughout Israel and abroad.
It promotes an open and honest discussion within the Orthodox community with a commitment to Halacha and sensitivity to social issues. Et Lidrosh is a Shabbat leaflet that broadens cultural and religious discourse by providing a platform for a wider range of opinions and discussion than available in other Shabbat leaflets. 50,000 copies of Et Lidrosh are distributed weekly to synagogues throughout Israel.

3. Changing the relationship between Religion and State in Israel

NTA is involved in various advocacy and legal activities, in order to promote changes in the relationship between religion and state in Israel. NTA is the only organization in Israel that has dealt in a comprehensive way with the issues regarding the relationship between religion and state, and is promoting a detailed proposal for change. NTA is working to develop an independent Beit Din (rabbinical court) that will be inclusive and Halachically tolerant in dealing with the challenges of conversion and personal status; NTA is involved in coalitions fighting for the rights of Agunot; developing an inclusive Orthodox burial; and providing an Orthodox voice in the development of vibrant Jewish rituals.

The main staff of NTA is comprised of passionate volunteers of every kind: men and women, young and old, rabbis and academics - that have come together to invest their time and energy in strengthening tolerance and openness in Jewish Orthodoxy.
